Baby Moon in Paris

Happy New Year to you all!!
it is hard to believe that we are now firmly in 2011, Well DH & i had a very interesting babymoon in Paris where we spent the New Year. We thought we should do it now because It is HIGHLY unlikely that we'll be going abroad in the next year. I picked Paris because it is one of those cities that I have written down on my list of places to see before I die. I love it for the Romanticism, The Literary history, The food. Yes the food, My appetite came alive in Paris! I couldn't stop eating! i was worried that I had only put on 4lbs throughout my pregnancy because my Midwife says that it was fine that I was losing weight in the 1st trimester ( If you remember, I was sick as a dog) but that I needed to but on steady weight once I hit the 2nd trimester but it wasn't happening! By Christmas I only had 4lbs to show for my efforts. In some way I was glad as one of my biggest fears is excessive weight gain. So i live in a contradictory world because I just want lil bean to be healthy. Paris had the best Pain au Chocolats & the best Doner Kebabs I had ever tasted!
Our hotel was 2 mins away from the Gare du Nord and so we were not in tourist paris, I saw more ethnic minorities than I see where I live, It had the air of being in Lagos. It was a pleasant surprise!
The Eiffel Tower

I was glad we went when I was 22 weeks pregnant because any later and I wouldn't have enjoyed it. We had to see Paris the lazy way via tourist bus because my feet began to swell after our first day there when we walked to see Galleries La Fayette which is like Macy's to you Americans & Harrods to you British Folks. It was stunning - of course I couldn't afford a thing! But gosh was it stunning!
I learnt a lot on the bus tour, I got to see everything in relative comfort.
Me at The Notre Dame

We also ventured on the Metro - It was a test of team work! Bearing in Mind I only have GCSE French & the only French word DH knows is "Pommes" which he kept randomly repeating putting me in ridiculous fits of giggles. Their public transport is sooooo much cheaper than the UK.
Arc de triomphe

New Years Eve came and instead of the night on the Champs Elysees like we planned, We ended up watching En Route to 2011 & eating expensive Chinese food ( They weigh it out) It was still memorable because DH & i kept making up the dialogue on the tv programme! The next day we went to the Champs Elysees like we planned only to discover that most of the shops were shut/ boarded up ( I think the Parisians really do throw a party) and on the news that evening we discovered it was quite raucous & lots of people got arrested.
So I'm glad me & my bump stayed home!
DH indulging in some Churros
All in all it was a great trip and something that I can tell Lil bean about one day! I got him the cutest souvenir - It made me melt!
