Puff puff is a bit hard to describe. We eat it as a snack usually during Glee! But I have a Jamaican friend who cooked me dumplings once and it tasted similar. (Not the English kinda dumplings though!)
Without further ado here's the recipe.
Ingredients
700g self raising
7g fast acting yeast
Sugar & salt to taste
Water.
Method
Sift flour into bowl make a well in the centre.
In a jug, put a tablespoon of sugar dissolve with warm water add a pinch of salt. Taste. If sweet enough, add yeast.
Add to mixture little at a time. Add more warm water if required until you get a doughy consistency.
With your hands, beat some air into the dough for about 5mins.
Cover with tea towel & leave in a warm place to rise.
Get your frier ready, once the oil is hot, drop balls of mixture into frier, fry till golden brown
Enjoy!

Sounds good...my jamaican version is similar but the ingredients are a lot simpler...we call them johnny cakes!
I have had these at my friends house and she is Guyanesse and they call them 'BARA' very simple and tasty.
Really interesting that you both have had them but called different things! :-)
