Pancake Day

Source
Today is traditionally known in the UK as Pancake day or Shrove Tuesday. Day before Lent. In the past, I just saw it as a day to scoff pancakes till I could barely move.. This year is different.

We still had pancakes. In the same fashion. i.e Pancakes for breakfast, Pancakes for dinner.(Savoury for mains, sweet for pud) but the difference is that we paced ourselves and I am observing Lent.

For Lent, I will be on a Sugar Fast. Which means, no Sugar, sweeteners, Baked Goods, Ice cream. This is so I know Sugar doesn't control me. If it does (which I suspect it does as I crave it) then this period will break the habit. I will use Lent to pray more and focus on the next bit of our lives.

I am quite excited about Lent. I may not be by day 20! All I know is this year, Hot cross Buns will be warmly welcomed!

Who else observes Lent? What are you doing this year?

I observe lent. I will be fasting tomorrow for Ash Wednesday. Every Friday I abstain and don't eat meat. I honestly have never given up anything for Lent but this year I really hope to get a bit closer to the Lord.

I was never taught about lent or really know what it is about. This year my goal is to read about lent during lent and decide if it is something I want to participate in next year.

I crave carbs a lot and suspect fasting from sugar would be good for me... I just need to get more organized and on top of having healthy snacks around so I can munch on them instead!

Interesting about pancake day; I'd never heard of it!

I think that's pretty dedicated Sabrina, the only Friday I abstain from meat is Good Friday. Good luck!

That's a good plan! Like you we didn't really do lent in our evangelical church but I was always aware of it, I have been reading about it over the years. I always used to avoid fasting too (out of fear maybe?)

Good luck Lori, you'll need it if your love for carbs & all things sweet runs as deep as mine! This will be good for me I think!

Good luck with the sugar fast through lent.
Last year I gave up the vendi machine at work basically crisps for the whole time.
Since then I hardly ever eat crisps and I used to have them daily with my lunch.

That kind of goal would be difficult for me, I admire your effort.

It is really hard. I had to adjust to avoiding Sugar, I let myself have honey & stevia and its still quite tough.. Tonight the family were having chocolate digestives with their cup of tea & I just had to stare!
