Recipe: Christmas Mince Bites

I have never made huge mince pies before. Honestly they are so small I feel I have to call them mince bites. I took the original recipe from Good Food's 101 Christmas book.



100g plain flour

100g self raising flour

100g butter - cut in cubes

1 tablespoon of caster sugar (I used unrefined cane)

1 teaspoon of mixed spice (my addition)

3-4 tablespoons of cold water

1 jar of good mincemeat (I used Robertsons)




Measuring spoons

Round cookie cutter

Star shaped cookie cutter

Rolling pin

Bun tray

Food processor



Preheat oven to 200 Celsius. Put both flours and the butter in the food processor, process until it becomes breadcrumb like, I needed to aid my processor with a knife to jiggle the ingredients about in spurts. Add sugar & mixed spice, pulse.

Add spoonful of water try three if not enough add the extra. Pulse so it becomes dough like.

Flour your work surface lightly, pour out your dough, roll thinly. You dont want to work a lot on it as you want it to be a short pastry.


Grease your tray, cut out your circles, mine made 12, keep excess pastry.

Use a teaspoon and put mincemeat in each circle in tray, cut out stars and use as a top.


Bake for 10-15 mins until golden brown.

Let it cool in tin and then cool completely on cooling tray.

Completely easy to make! Taking mind to the LLL meeting tomorrow!

I always thought the mince was real mince until I was rudely awakened.
